There are three main pirate crews in this day and age, each differing from the others. They all have a unique history behind them, some violent, others less so.
Ater
The Ater is one of the less intimidating ships that sails the world. The majority of it's crew are very open and friendly, especially when there is alcohol involved. They're a rather superstitious bunch however, and tend to believe most, if not all, of the old wives tales about the seas, and all of the legends told by their predecessors. They are one of the nicer crews, and aren't the fondest of the crew of the Nox usually. This crew tends to sail around the equator.

Caligo
The crew of the Caligo are a very distant people. They view each other as family however, like any other crew. They are polite to people who have not offended them or their captain in any way. They aren't as superstitious as the members of the Ater, but are still mildly superstitious and wary while they sail. They are supposedly stronger than the crew of Ater (who happen to be the laughing stock of the pirate world at times, so that isn't a very hard thing to do). The Caligo's crew don't hold any grudges against any other pirate crew as a whole, although maybe personally. They are the 'neutral' crew in a sense. They tend to sail in more southern waters.
Nox[/u]
The crew of the Nox are supposedly one of the most dangerous (and on occasion the stupidest) crews out there. They aren't very superstitious, but some of them can get rather bloodthirsty at times. This ship's crew tend to like their alcohol a bit more than the other two. They tend to be more rambunctious and louder than the other two ships, which has caused more than a few grudges throughout the years. They tend to pick on members of the Ater's crew when they can, which usually causes even more grudges, but they like the members of the Caligo's crew well enough. This ship's crew tends to sail in the more northern waters.
