Im Yong Soo
FULL NAME HERE Im Yong Soo
NICKNAMES Yong Soo, Soo, whatever you want, he doesn’t care as long as he’s currently the nicer of his two personalities. This’ll be explained later, but he prefers nothing other than his full name when his personality flips. Calling him commie, Asian kid, anything will result in a gun to your head.
GENDER Male
AGE 23
ETHNICITY Korean
NATION OF ORIGIN[/b] Sinis
CLAIM TO FAME His personality switches. Normally, he’s the nicest navy admiral you could know, pretty lenient and unlikely to go charging at other ships guns-a-blazing. When he feels he’s in danger or gets mad, something clicks in his brain and you get a psychopath with access to a massive amount of weapons and no remorse for using them. He’s like an Asian Hulk, just try to keep nice around him... Unless you want him violent of course.
WEAPON OF CHOICE
His normal self prefers using a traditional longbow that he had carved for himself years ago, even though it’s completely outclassed in this world full of guns and ships. While he may normally like the bow, his other half loves guns, absolutely loves them. He’ll use whatever he can get his hands on, shooting everyone and anyone that gets in the way.

YOUR CHARACTER'S LIKES At least five
Normal half -
- Being nice - This is more of something that just happens naturally, but he finds that it makes him allies and is definitely worth trying to be polite. Being nice also keeps him acting happy, whether he is or not (which he probably is) and that keeps his crew happy and working hard, something every admiral, pirate or navy, should strive for.
- Hanboks - Unfortunately, he rarely gets to wear his beloved hanbok on land as he must be in his navy uniform, but when on the sea, he wears it whenever he can, whether it be walking across the deck, or trying to negotiate a peace treaty with a band of pirates. His favourite one is a blue colour, one that he’s had ever since his 18th birthday.
- His father - Granted, his father is dead now and Yong Soo’s gone through a massive amount of traumatizing events because of his legacy and early death, but he still loves and respects him, making sure to do everything he can to bring honor to the memory of his father.
GropingTouching chests in a respectful manner - This isn’t for a perverted reason, but it’s been a habit since he was a child to touch and claim them as his, already showing his aptitude for the navy life. Apparently it’s some sort of post-traumatic stress, but those are just words that sailed over his head as he couldn’t really care less.- His crew - His crew is like his family, they’re the closest people to him considering the fact that he has no one left in the world that he can call flesh and blood. He does all he can to make sure they’re happy and safe, and would be devastated if any of them were to be killed.
- Soju - None of that ale for him, soju is the only drink that he holds close to his heart. By no means is he an alcoholic, but he’ll happily down a bottle or two with dinner, dancing and otherwise making merry with the rest of his crew.
Psyco half - - Weapons - Whether it be something small like a knife, or something big like a bomb, he loves it all and loves using them even more. Everybody else seems to have a problem with his wielding weapons for some reason though, and he has to resort to hiding them.
- Power - He’s a bit power hungry, although he won’t admit it. He likes being able to make the decisions, to be able to do things others can’t, to rule over things. He actually might go to pretty extreme lengths to get this power, with little regard what effects it might have or who he hurts, not like he really cares anyways. Good thing he’s already a admiral, there’s not much higher he can go.
- Tradition - Having order is important to Hyung-Soo, and tradition makes that so much easier to have. He’s also fairly old-fashioned, growing up in a high ranking situation has caused that. That includes being a proper gentleman, having the best possible manners, utmost respect for his elders, but also the ideals of having a wife who would do his bidding, bear his children, and stay home while he works. He’s a win-lose situation, good with the bad.
- Being left alone - Hyung-Soo is antisocial, there’s no denying it, he’d rather sit in his room by himself than go out in public and interact with anyone. Trying to force him to interact with anyone he doesn’t want will likely end up very... bloody, and messy for everyone involved.
- His nation - A huge patriot just like how we believes every other person living in Sinis should be, he loves his nation above everything, and is quite easily willing to die for it if need be. Maybe he loves his nation a little too much, but you’ll never get him to confess to it.
YOUR CHARACTER'S DISLIKES Again, at least five
- Being lonely - The complete opposite of his psychotic side, he’s normally a very social person, thriving when in the company of others and moping about when not. Even animals is enough, anything that could provide him with social contact is welcome.
- His past - Something that’ll get covered in the background section, his past was traumatic, although maybe not as traumatic as some others, and it left him with all sorts of bad memories of kidnappings and death.
- Having to fight - His normal side doesn’t like fighting, he doesn’t like the sheer bloody brutality of it and how easily people get away with basically murder. He’ll avoid it as much as he can and try to find any and all other solutions to avoid it.
- Being attacked - Being attacked means being boarded, his family-crew being hurt, and fighting. It’s no wonder that Yong Soo doesn’t like being attacked, it just screws up the pleasant life he has with his crew and boat just sailing around near Sinis.
- Stereotypes - He does not eat cats or dogs, got that? Because he’s from Sinis, the rest of the world seems to think that he automatically must eat animals and pets. Completely not the case, he loves dogs anyways, he wouldn’t dream of hurting them.
Psycho half - - Parties - Too loud, too smelly, too messy, too disorganized, too many people, too many.. Well, you get the idea. everything that parties represents, he’s disgusted with and he wouldn’t be caught dead at one without a good reason. Whenever there’s one going on the ship, he retreats to his quarters and mutters to himself. Speaking of which...
- Loud noises - Gunshots, he can handle. Canons, he can handle. Thunder, he can handle. But loud noises made by the masses, going about their lives like the insignificant ants they are? That’s a big no-no for psycho-Soo, make a surprising noise out of the blue that startles him, or cost him his concentration, and you can be sure that somebody’s getting quality one-on-one time with him.
- Branching off from that real quick, that includes little kids crying. Children should be neither seen nor heard, at least according to him, and the high pitched wailing coming from a tiny little mouth is enough to make him go insane. And when he’s insane, he’s both harmful to everyone around him and himself, so keep kids away. Luckily, he’s normally on the ocean when his psychotic side decides to show up, so that’s not much of a worry.
- People - As a general rule, he doesn’t like other people. He lives like a hermit, only interacting with people when he really needs them, and only people close to him at that. Apparently that’s one of the signs of a sociopath, but don’t tell him that,
he’ll go psycho on you and beat you uphave to correct you very politely, without any violence at all. - Music - It’s loud, rambunctious, and will usually lead to singing, dancing, and all that wonderful stuff his violent side hates. Luckily, this side is usually never around when there’s music in the air, but you can never be too careful.
FEARS At least two
- Being chucked in an insane asylum - After all, his crew had to have noticed his... condition by now, and quite frankly, it’s not normal. He personally doesn’t mind it that much, it’s helped him more times than he can count during pirate raids, but even he admits that something’s wrong with his head.
- Death - Let’s face it, it’s everybody’s fear whether they be a pirate or a mariner, nobody wants to die. It’s a little worse for Yong Soo as his ship is considered ‘the nice ship’ and is more prone to being attacked by pirates who believe they won’t fight back. All his life he’d been told to fear pirates, that they would capture and kill him brutally, ransacking his ship and burning his crew in the meanwhile. While he knows this is most likely not going to happen, he’s still extremely wary and always keeps battle ready.
- Storms - Especially considering where is most of the time, earthquakes and tsunamis are the bane of his existence, and he fears that he would one day have his ship flip over and drown at sea.
GOALS At least one
- Peace in and around Sinis - He wants to make everything in the area of Sinis safe for everyone, willing to do whatever it takes, from bribing, to peace treaties, to outright killing, all of the pirates near them from assaulting his land and sea.
QUIRKS/ODDITIES/HABITS At least three
- Hair curl - Yong Soo has a hair curl on the right side of his head. It looks cool, and also happens to be his erogenous zone. When his personality flips to his violent half, the curl droops and curls down, as opposed to its usual up.
- Speech quirk - He happens to like tacking ‘da-ze’ onto the end of sentences every once in a while, mostly when he’s excited and trying to make a point. He can’t exactly remember when he picked up this habit, but he can’t seem to lose it and it doesn’t cause him trouble so he shrugs it off and rolls with it.
- Food - He loves food, and always will be eating something whenever you see him unless he actually has something important to do such as defending himself from mean, nasty pirates who want his booty. Yes, booty. No, not that kind of booty.

OVERALL PERSONALITY At least six points with a description for each one, or +400 words
Ahh Yong Soo, ever the cheerful person, laughing and grinning his days away in the presence of his crew and friends... Until he gets pushed enough or feels endangered that is...
Yong Soo is normally an extremely cheerful person, insults just roll off of him and he’s completely either oblivious or doesn’t care. He’ll constantly be smiling and trying to have a good time, bringing everyone around him for a fun time as well. Super happy fun time is his game and it really does take a lot to bring him down, nearly everything is just brushed off by him.
While being happy all the time might make him look like a bit of idiot, he’s far from that, being fairly intelligent. After all, he’s a admiral and admirals can’t be stupid right? He can improvise very well, and uses logic in nearly everything to try for the best possible outcome for himself, even in the midst of a heated battle. This isn’t too surprising, he’s from Sinis after all, holding the stereotype of strong brains.
He also has a sense of family loyalty, and since his crew is basically his entire family, his loyalty also stretches fairly far. He’s willing to die for them, and would do anything for them without a second thought, no matter how ridiculous the request.
While that basically sums up Soo as a cheerful, idiotic at times, but still uses his head and heart, he has a deep dark secret, a monster inside of him, rattling its cage demanding release. He can’t control it, he never could, the only thing he could do was try and keep his temper in check, make sure it would never get out, save himself from the effort of controlling it once it was out.
It takes a lot to push Soo, nobody know what exactly seems to trigger it, but the consensus is that his buttons shouldn’t be pushed, and that he he or his crew were in danger, a darker Yong Soo seems to rise out from inside him. On the request of his crew, he’s seen a few psychiatrists, but they didn’t have much to say, something about dual personalities, PTSD, wonderful things that he didn’t really care about considering it didn’t fix the problem.
He becomes more violent, more unhinged, more logical, losing all of the warmth of his usual self and becoming little more than a cold, calculating war machine. He’s made sure to not let anyone else know, especially the rest of the mariners, knowing this part of him would be used and exploited for their own gain, something he wouldn’t tolerate. The personality change is so drastic that everyone that knows about his condition has developed a different name for him, calling him Hyung Soo when he is in one of his rages, and Yong Soo for anytime else.
‘Hyung Soo’ (ie his other half, using this for ease of typing) has a much lower tolerance for BS, becoming a ruthless admiral looking for nothing more than to track every pirate ship down and burning them to the bottom of the sea bed, relishing in the killing and purging, driven by his desire to bring fear to the mariner name. Lucky for both the sanity of the crew and his own safety, his normal half regains control fairly quickly and they don’t get into too much trouble.
BACKSTORY/HISTORY How your character got to be the way they are; full story or at least 300 words.
Yong Soo’s father was a famous general who spent many years on the sea fighting pirates and the like, keeping Sinis safe. He eventually settled down after all those years, happily spending his months on the shores of what used to be Korea, siring a son with his wife, whom he had met during his adventures on the water. The three of them had a perfect little life, living in a perfect little house with a perfect little view. Until the day where things decided to be... not so perfect. His father was called back into action to fight off a massive pirate raid, and in the midst of it, Yong Soo found himself fatherless. Soon after the news of his death, his mother dropped him off at school, then proceeded to throw herself into the ocean, to be forever closer to his father.
Immediately following his parents death, no one knew what to do with the child. However, his father had the reputation of being one of the greatest recent mariners, so people soon came from all over Sinis to raise this child as their own in hopes that he would be as successful as his father had been, bringing honor to their family. Over the next 5 years, he was kidnapped over and over by powerful families, seeing assassins murdering his last kidnappers before bringing him to his next family. It went on for a long time, Yong Soo becoming more withdrawn every time.
Eventually, it got so bad that the government became involved after tracking down the trail of blood and hired killers. He was put in the care of two high ranking officials, being passed back and forth every week like a child stuck between two divorced parents might. While they both raised him against being a pirate, and that he must become a mariner, both went about doing it different ways. Yong Soo loved both of them of course, they cared for him after all, but were conflicted between the two methods. One would teach him to be cruel, violent and unforgiving towards pirates and to destroy every enemy ship he saw. The other taught him to take a nicer approach, to negotiate deals and make peace and allies.
This continuing internal conflict built up so much, that one day, he snapped, and became who he is now; two sides of the same coin. By this time, he was 18 and old enough to be entrusted with a ship of his own, no questions asked. He trained at the side of another mariner, only a year away from retirement, until he was experienced enough to take the ship as his own as an admiral. Over the next 4 years, he’s developed a relationship with the crew and established himself as an easy-going, if not a little scary at times, leader.
From ALoS, Soo is mine, Alfred and Arthur are the characters of others.
After having been up all night goofing off and then getting up early for a PE class this morning, Alfred was pretty worn out. And his stomach was growling at him. He swore he lost 10 pounds just walking to the cafeteria. Why did it have to be so far away? He dragged himself into the large dining area. A few people were staring at him, but he just grinned and winked at a few of them. Mostly to put off an impression that he was trying to impressguysgirls.
Alfred finally wandered into the food line, getting a tray, and ordered 5 cheeseburgers. The stare he got was funny, but he re-iterated "No, I'm serious. I'll actually eat 5 cheeseburgers."
Finally, with tray in tow, he wandered out of line with his all-American cheeseburgers and freedom fries. His eyes scanned the room for a free table. A few girls looked at him with hopeful eyes, but he wasn't really interested. Alfred really hoped this wouldn't be like that kid in grade-school who had to sit by the trash cans. (Nobody should have to sit by the trash cans.)
He saw someone who looked pretty cool over in the corner and wandered his self over to that table, standing right next from him. "Hi, I'm Alfred! What's your name? Can I sit here?"
He impatiently shifted from foot-to-foot.
Yong-Soo was extremely happy, even though he was slightly sleep-deprived after staying up most of the night playing StarCraft for the fifth night in a row. Granted, he had a good time Zerg rushing everyone who wasn’t prepared and easily netting himself the win only a few minutes after the game had began. And of course, seeing the usual comments about how his mother had sexual relations with a bunch of upset 14 year olds was a hilarious bonus, even though the whole gaming until 4 in the morning left him extremely tired for the rest of the day. Still, it was lunchtime and lunchtime meant that he could sit, relax, and eat some delicious Korean food. Kimchi, his favourite food, in particular. Speaking of Kimchi, he picked up his chopsticks again and shovelled some in his mouth, revelling in the taste of the spicy pickled cabbage.
While eating, he carefully tried coming up with new tactics he could use tonight, before he was interrupted by a new boy, one whom he had never seen before. He seemed nice enough however, definitely better than some of the more mopey people he had seen at the school, and grinned at the prospect of a new friend.
“Hi Alfred, my name’s Im Yong Soo, you can just call me Yong Soo, or Soo, whatever you want! Oh, and sure, sit all you want!” He said cheerfully, motioning to one of the many chairs surrounding him. Taking another bite of Kimchi, he curiously looked over at Alfred’s try, noting the abundance of food before saying, “Wow, that’s a lot of food! Are you sure you can eat that all?”
Alfred grinned. This guy was super friendly! "Hi there, Soo! You can just call me Al, if you wanna!" He sat down next to him. "So where are you from? And do you play video games? I play World of Warcraft, myself!" He loved video games, but so far hadn't found anybody to play them with him. You'd think in a school of hackers and programmers, somebody would play video games!
When the comment was made about his food, he blinked and then looked down at his food. He looked over at Yong Soo's. It did look like alot compared to the asian boy's.....
"Yeah, I guess. But this is how much I normally eat!" He smiled. "Actually, you know what this food would be good for? We could start a food fight. I doubt this place has ever seen one before!" He snickered. Al wasn't sure how well Soo would actually take that. He hoped that the other wasn't a stickler for rules or anything. "Though if you don't wannt, I mean.... that's cool too!"
Soo’s ears perked up immediately when he heard the mention of video games, all sorts of thoughts of StarCraft and the like racing through his head at mach speed. “Sure thing, Alfred it is! And of course, as a matter of fact, I’ve actually stayed up until 4 in the morning playing StarCraft for the past week!” He said sheepishly, only realising that he sounded like an addict after he said that. “Do you play StarCraft? I’ll be so happy to finally have someone to play with, you’d be surprised how little people play here, and pub stomping gets old after a while.” He followed up with a grin, mentally high fiving himself at how smoothly he had covered up his mistake.
He grinned at Alfred’s mention of a food fight, it did sound like fun and the cafeteria sounded way too quiet to be interesting anyway. “Sure, that sounds like fun! Although, do you mind if we don’t have to throw my Kimchi? I mean, I have jar full of it in my room, but it always takes Ivan a long time to sneak some in, I’d hate to waste any!” He explained quickly, taking advantage of his pause to sneak another bite of his oh so delicious food. “But.. How do you even start a food fight?” He asked, looking around the room slowly, figuring out who he’d have to hit first and where he’d be able to hide.
Arthur wasn’t as cheerful as the people in the line for the cashier. Then again, when was the grumpy Brit really cheerful? Anyway, Arthur was his pissy self for several reasons. One of them was how annoying his classmates were. He couldn’t stand their stupidity, they had caused him a large headache. He sighed and ordered tea to calm down with some sandwiches and found a table in the back where no one was sitting.
The second reason why he wasn’t feeling happy was because last night Arthur had managed to get into the kitchen and baked scones. Cause if he did it at any other time of the day people would pick on him or try to mess with his food. So he was a little cranky by having to wake up at 4 in the morning, climb out windows and back inside to one, just to get his scones done. And of course in the process in getting back to the room he got stuck in the window and someone had to help him out. Which had been very embarrassing.
He took a sip of his tea and let out a content sigh. He clearly relaxed. Some nice tea he with scones, sitting alone. Yes this was doing him good. Little did Arthur know he had just presented himself on a silver plate as the perfect target for a certain American boy. He was facing him with his back so he wouldn’t know what he was upto or see anything coming for that matter.
Alfred grinned at Soo. "Sure thing, man. Everyone's gotta eat, right? And I'm sure that Korean stuff is hard to come by!" He sat upright. He could certainly get along with this guy! "I have enough burgers to start us off anyway! .....though let's not throw my soda. I actually want that." He snickered.
Alfred sat a bit more upright and looked around the small eating area. There were a lot of people, but not a lot that he would willingly throw food at. Those girls in the corner looked like they had worked too hard on their hair to get food thrown at them. He could appreciate the sentiment of not wanting food in it.
He was getting to the point where he was physically turning in his chair to look for appropriate targets to hit with said burgers. Finally, his eyes landed on one, a Mr. Arthur Kirkland.
Alfred's grin widened when he saw his room mate. He was a pretty cool dude, so he was sure he could take it well. He grabbed a handful of fries, throwing them at Arthur's head, before turning around and sitting there innocently sipping at his soda.
"That's my room mate. He's pretty cool, but he seems like he needs something to calm him down." Alfred snickered to his new friend.
He waited until Arthur might not be looking again, before grabbing one of his burgers and throwing it at Arthur's shirt, this time laughing very loudly.
Yong Soo giggled as he watched Alfred throw a couple fries at some guy he had never met before. 'Hmm, he hadreeeeeallybig eyebrows,' he thought, 'I wonder if he knows how big they are?' Making a mental note to talk to the blond about it later, he ducked his head down and tried acting as innocent as he could, playing with the last quarter of his food. He peeked his head up a little to try and see Arthur's reaction, but ducked back down as he couldn't see anything without being too obvious.
"If you insist, da-ze~!" He said, giggling again, having fun causing trouble for the first time in his life. He laughed along with Alfred as he watched the second item, a burger this time, hit his target. He looked down at his plate, contemplating whether or not he could afford to spare a few pieces of Kimchi to throw.. Y'know, just in case he started getting attacked himself.
"I can't wait for this to get big, this is going to be so much fun, da-ze~" He whispered to Alfred, rolling some Kimchi into a ball and preparing his throwing arm.
